NYACK, N.Y. — Ever wanted to talk about death in a safe, respectful space?

Now you can.

Kerry Potter, the owner of Dying to Bloom, a natural burial boutique in Nyack, will be hosting what’s called a “Death Café,” over tea and treats Sunday, Nov. 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“Death Cafés” features a group-directed, agenda-free discussions of topics surrounding death, fears, ideas, and life itself. While they are not considered grief support or counseling, they can be therapeutic for those who have experienced loss or those that simply have general questions about death.

The “Death Cafés” model, developed by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid, based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz, aims to shift the topic from one of fear or avoidance to familiarity and comfort.
