If you care about the environment while you’re alive, what about after you’re dead?
This week in “Stories from Main Street,” Sean Adams found one entrepreneur making green burials her business. “Dying to Bloom is a natural burial boutique, and what that means I sell biodegradable burial products for people and pets as well,” said Kerry Potter. Potter got the idea for her boutique in Nyack after visiting Green Springs, a natural burial cemetery upstate. “The people that are buried there actually do return to the earth and nourish the life there, and I thought that’s such a beautiful concept,” she said. “So there’s no embalming. You have to be in a biodegradable casket or shroud, and you actually do return to the earth and do nourish new life.” Potter said no state requires embalming for every death.
